The Melt

We got 19" of snow total over 12 days. The melt started on Friday the 26th and today it is all but gone.  Christmas went well. I wasn't able to get out because of the snow but I had bought some things for the kids over the last few months so I had stuff for them. I will be getting more in the week ahead. I thought I had down loaded pictures of all the snow onto my lap top but I can't find them now.

SNOW!

Yowza, it is snowing like crazy. It started out a little weak but now it is booming. Blowing twisting swirling snow.

Last weekend I went and did my first Santacon. What fun. It is basically a pub crawl with everyone dressed up as Santa in one form or another. Everything from Ninja Santa to Naughty Santa. Just google it and a whole new world opens up. There was also a Hasidic Santa. I am thinking of going as a PLO Santa next year. Anyway tons of fun. If this sounds interesting to you let me know and we can plan for next year. Thanks Santa Casey!

I have been busy

Well the weather finally broke. It was 101' yesterday. I did a morning ride and then tried to do a mini swine with Herbert and it was too hot. We made it from Claudia's to the Bagdad and then went to the Side Street but it was boiling out. We went back to the safety of the airconditioned Claudia's for a beer then Mike was gone. I staid for a few more and was napping by 3:30 missing the heat of the day. I got up and watched the news and SNL with Carlin from 1975?
It is hot again today. Did a 15 mile ride at 6 this morning. I made it up to Claudia's by eleven and Neal was nice enough to make one of his magical omlettes for me.

Tank Bike IV

The new bike. I got it on Thursday. Thanks for picking it up Robert! Last night Wolff left me a twig of Curly Willow. I don't really know what to do with it. It is now shedding leaves in the kitchen. Thanks Wolffy!
Today is the last CHAMP CAR race ever. Kind of sad to see it go. There is no longer any worth while major league open wheel racing in the USA. Thanks Tony George, you DICK! I think he should be added to the Dickipedia Web page: http://www.dickipedia.org/dick.php?title=Main_Page . What do you think? Ten laps into the race time to start watching for real.

Sunday Morning Rides

Nothing like an early Sunday ride. I just rode around my neighborhood for a couple of hours. Bombing the alleys and side roads I have noticed during my commute. I was going east on Salmon from 30th and I am aiming for the alley on 32nd. I go way to the left, almost to the cars parked on that side of the road, and lay the bike over while still pedaling and roll into the alley. I hear behind me, "Holy Shit" from a guy following about a block behind. Looking back it probably looked like I was going to run into the house!

I am thinking about an alley run pre-Swine practice ride. A casual couple of hours, a few stops, all in inner SE. Any takers?

1801 days since "Mission Accomplished"

264 pages, 4,009 names of troops killed in Iraq war.
ABC News reports:
The Senate took a quick break from the Foreclosure Prevention Act Thursday,to vote on a resolution honoring members of the military killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The resolution, which is assumed to get unanimous support and was offered by Sen. Teddy Kennedy, (D-Mass.), is simple enough, reading: “The Senate honors the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have lost their lives in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and honors their families and loved ones.”
The idea may be simple, yet the text of the resolution goes on for 264 pages; that is how much paper it takes to list the 4,009 names of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines killed in Iraq and 487 names of American servicemen and women killed in Afghanistan.

4-4-08 40 years ago today.

MLK was killed forty years ago today. Remember.

Easter

I went over to CB's yesterday for Easter. I went after the NCAA games and the kids were fresh from their Grandparents house and they were a wee bit wound up. Okay, they were bouncing off of the walls. Nate wanted to do an egg hunt, so they all went out of the room and closed the door while I hid them. I wanted a better picture of them than the one I had. So after three tries this was the best I could get. With an assist from CB.

Spring Ride

Spring Ride. Today it is nice out. 57' sunny and the trees are a bloomin'. This is a house I ride by every morning at 6:15 so I haven't seen it during the daylight for months. I took a nice slow ride today. Just enjoying the scenery.

Light Mount

Behind all of the cables and wires is a mutated TerraCycle light mount that use the Long Wheel base front accessory mount tube and the 75mm and 100mm Arms with the CatEye clamps and the TerraCycle 90' adapter mount. The lights are powered by a 6-volt battery pack mounted like a water bottle. Also in the picture can be seen is the horn, bell, and computer.

The Best Bike Rack

A keg of New Belgium Beer. There is nothing like locking your bike up to a beer keg that is behind your favorite watering hole. They are light but awkward if you try to move or remove the bike from where it is. The bike above is the "Tank Bike" all 58 pounds of it. I was finally able to order a Xtracyle on Thursday. Brown should be delivering it by Wednesday the 26th to the shop. I should be on the road with it by Friday if not before. I can't wait.

4990

It is not a Dogwood but it is spring!

So today it has been five years since the start of Bush's misbegotten war in Iraq. FUCK. 4990 Americans have died since then in a desert that we have no business to be in. I am sad but also hopeful. Obama gave one of the best most inspiring speaches I have ever heard. Read it, watch it and then act on what he has to say. linky: Part one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2i1bk7SamQ Peace.

Vote

So last night Drinky Santa and I were talking local politics when two members of the Oregon Bus crew stopped in at Claudia's to get people to register to vote. The last day is April 29th to vote in the May primary. It was nice to see younger people involved in the get out the vote initiative.
This Glenn Avenue, see below, is in SE. I didn't know there is one in NE. Thanks for the tip.

Great Time at PIR

So Mike and I headed out to PIR around 10 am on Saturday for the Grand Re-Opening of the track. We couldn't have had better weather. Sunny and cool but it made it to 60' by 2 pm. We stopped by the Interstate Freddies and got spray paint, for the Tank Bike, and beer 1/2 rack of PBR, some cheese and salami. I forgot bagels and ice. Mike ran back in and got the ice but we didn't realize that we had forgot the bagels until we were all ready at the track.
We drive right into the track and we are on our own trying to find a parking space. So we wander and park across from the front straight bridge.
We unload the bikes and cruise around the pits when we see others riding on the track so off we go through pit out. We did a lap and a little more the back to the van for lunch and a beer. While we are eating I look at the passenger mirror and behind us is three tall women putting on their roller blades and skating off. We finish our beers and stupidly think we will catch those hot roller bladders. We hadn't made it to the bridge when they pass us. Christ they are fast. Nice butts too!
When we get to the new part of the track I see Lonnie and Jeff and Tom and a couple of other Bent riders. I also saw Tweety back in the pits later. They were there to check out the new track for the OHPV meat in May, http://www.ohpv.org/HPC/index.html , Mike and I were there to plot out summer racing viewing spots.
I saw some nice old race cars and shot some video. Still can't figure that out yet. The picture above is last summer at the beach with the new Orange Cruiser bike you can see the Tank Bike in the background.
We were the last of the Bicycles off of the track. I had the sweep truck about 100' behind me as I went down the pit return road. We went back to the van for more food and beer. After about a half hour the hot rods were on the track for the rest of the day. We went around on the outer road and scoped out places to watch from. They really hacked a big part of the motor home parking area between turn 4-6. Turn 6-7 is now a left the sharp right with banking. Pretty cool, I can't wait until the Rose Cups and Historics this summer. I should have a list of races I am going to within a week or so.
Have fun. I am.

A Whole Week!

Where did this week go? I have figured out how to make long videos with my camera now. Next step editing and how to upload these little shorts. I am going out to PIR http://http://www.portlandraceway.com/ on Saturday for the Grand Reopening. Just a short note tonight.

Last night's eclipse was cool. Very red and yellow. The day started out rainy but warm 45'. By lunch time the sun was out and the streets were dry. People were stopping on Hawthorne and taking pictures with their cell phones. Very neat.

Camera Mount

This morning I went down to the shop and made a camera mount for my handle bars for my mountain bike. I can now shoot video while I ride. The first one turned out well. I need to aim it a little more to the left but other than that it worked out.
As soon as I figure this whole thing out I will post a video clip and a picture or two of the mount.
